Stinging Nettles
Isn't it fascinating that the very plant that can cause an “allergic” reaction upon contact can also help relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergies? Nettle is a powerhouse herb packed with nutrients. It contains vitamins A, C, K, and several B vitamins, along with essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron, and potassium. Additionally, nettle is rich in terpenes, fatty acids, carotenes, polyphenolic compounds, amino acids, and more.
So, how can taking stinging nettle remedies help combat allergies? When we touch this plant, we often experience a reaction due to tiny hair-like structures known as trichomes on its leaves and stems. These trichomes release a mixture of chemicals, including neurotransmitters and acids like histamine, serotonin, and formic acid. When consumed, stinging nettle works harmoniously with our body to modulate inflammation. It contains natural antihistamines that can block the body’s response to allergens. Rather than merely alleviating symptoms, nettle helps restore balance, nourish, soothe, and calm our body's reactions to allergens or “invaders.” I truly appreciate nettle for its remarkable benefits, which I have witnessed firsthand in my friends and family members suffering from seasonal allergies.
As allergy season approaches, keep an eye out for our very own Wildcrafted Nettle Salt!
